Upcoming STARS Events

Remember: An email will be sent to you the Friday BEFORE each event giving you specific details about the location, address, and what to bring and expect. The website states location names and general areas for planning purposes. 

Teens age 12-18 with Down syndrome are welcome to sign up for these events. There is no charge for these events during the school year. Click here  to make sure your child is signed up.

CLOSED STARS Registrations

Cooking with Color @ DSG: Offered August 28th from 6-8pm: Cooking class to teach teens the importance of cooking with a variety of foods to promote healthy eating habits. Teens will also get to practice safe cooking techniques to continue at home.

OPEN STARS Registrations

OPEN until Sunday, August 25th at 8pm:

Yoga in the Yard (in Topeka, KS): Offered September 3rd from 6-8pm: Yoga in the great outdoors to help us connect our mind and bodies and RELAX! Fitness comes in all forms and yoga is an important piece to relieve stress and balance our bodies. Van available to transport teens from DSG to Topeka, KS for those who sign up.

Exercise in the Air @ Urban Air Trampoline Park (Overland Park): Offered September 4th from 6-8pm: Exercising on trampolines to promote healthy lifestyles and getting active in the community with friends. Who says you can't have fun when you exercise!

September 11th: No event due to Red Barn Farm on September 15th.  

 

Open Until Sunday, September 1st @8pm:

Friendship Frenzy @ DSG: Offered September 18th from 6-8pm: Meet new friends, build on existing friendships, and have lots of fun while we play games and interact with others to prepare for a great year in STARS! Teens will work on building their self-advocacy skills, following safety rules, and working together to accomplish a fun task (not a board game). I bet the suspense is driving you crazy!

The Good Life Series @ DSG: Ideal for ages 15-23, but anyone can attend. For both caregivers and self advocates. More details by clicking below.

 Registration opening Sunday, August 25th at 8pm:

Double Dare @ DSG: Offered September 25th from 6-8pm: Double Dare your STARS friends to some friendly competition! Teens will be divided into teams who will challenge each other to complete tasks which will help better prepare them for the workplace environment. Fun tasks will have teens wanting to compete, but they won't even know they are learning!

Ready, Set, Go! @ Rotary Youth Camp in Lee's Summit, MO: Offered September 26 from 6-8pm: Teens will be outside at the beautiful Rotary Camp, participating in scavenger hunts, interactive activities, and fun, fun, fun, while they use their problem solving skills! Teens will be able to bring one of their peers (who does not have DS) with them to this event! Van available to transport teens from DSG to Lee's Summit for those who sign up and are interested.

Registration opening Sunday, September 1st at 8pm:

STARS (Lawrence Location) Spooky Science @ The Union Pacific Depot, Lawrence, KS: Offered on October 1 from 6-8pm: A van will be available to take teens from DSG to Lawrence, KS around 4:45pm and return at 9pm for those interested. Teens will be creating spooky experiments and having some Halloween fun with science. 

Cheers to Giving Back and Learning New Things @ The Cheer Pitt Kansas City (Overland Park): Offered on October 2 from 6-8pm: Teens will be making a craft with the cheerleaders to give back to the community, learning how to make a healthy snack on the go, and learning some cheers to help promote good friendships! Teens will work with The Cheer Pitt cheerleaders on these activities and have a great time! 

Registration opening Sunday, September 8th at 8pm:

Shake it Up Cooking Class @ DSG: Cooking class offered on October 9th from 6-8pm, where everything we make involves moving your body and making that food shake to get it ready to eat! Teens will practice safe cooking methods, prepare food, and eat dinner at DSG.
